A technology of software license management is presented in the paper. It is up-to-date for distributed institutions that are using network and distance forms for a software licenses. The basis of the technology consists of: 1) a lexical analyzer to retrieve required information from license manager’s system log-files; 2) a database formed on parsing results; 3) a web database interface to generate the most demanding data retrievals that allow you to make a standard decision on license management. The log-files format of Flexlm license manager that is used in Southern Federal University is studied. There are two choices to use this technology: to start the analyzer according to schedule or to learn on-line how many used and unused licenses of the desired software you have at the moment. An example is given in the paper to show how an educational institution that uses customized expensive software can save its financial assets with the help of this technology.
