It is shown, that information resources are a pragmatic part of information, and knowledge is the most qualitative part of pragmatic information, i.e. information resources.

It is stated in the article, that technologies are the instrument influencing on technological spheres of life, but quality of life doesn’t depend on technical components and rely on relation of a person to his/her life. It is concluded that a traditional concept ‘information technologies’ is necessary to define in order to divide formal and creative components of these technologies. A concept ‘information technologies’ is specified through divsion of ‘intelligent’ and ‘engineering technologies’.

Functionality and abilities of program and methodical support of professional and orientation work and testing of pupils by using an automated information system (AIS) ‘Professional Orientation of Pupils in Moscow’ are analyzed in the article. An exmaple of a set of mental diagnostics and professional orientation methods, built in AIS, is given; mechanisms of their selection and theoretical analysis of a technology of methodical support of a process of creation of computer models for these methods are described in details. Functionality, which enables to provide a process of development of an individual educational and professional path and making a correct choice, are discussed.
