The article provides an assessment of the level of satisfaction with the salaries of higher school teachers. The factors determining the dynamics of positive and negative evaluations of teachers are highlighted, the importance of labor evaluation mechanisms and accrual of incentive payments is revealed. The features of the “substitute” model of teacher incentives are revealed, in which the low level of remuneration is compensated by the creative nature of work, opportunities for self-realization and professional development.

As a result of the research, key trends in the education system and problematic areas in issues related to the training of future specialists have been identified. The analysis of applicants entering the university was carried out, based on the results of passing the Unified State Exam, the key areas of training were identified in terms of demand from applicants. The volume of budget and paid places in different areas of training is analyzed. Discrepancies between the expectations of the labor market and the choice of applicants have been revealed.
