Methodological programs are considered in the context of the historical development of economic theory. The methodological approaches of mercantilists (utilitarianism), physiocrats (biologism), English political economy (positivism), Marxism (dialectics), institutionalism (system method), marginalism (subjective method), economics (postpositivism), etc. have been analyzed. Modern economic theory is used probabilistic and game methods, as well as the eclectic method.
