The article considers the issue of innovation activity of artificial intelligence (AI) in education. It substantiates the idea of the possibility of pedagogical innovations developed by artificial intelligence itself. The following issues are analyzed: positive and negative sides of AI application in pedagogy, virtual teaching, inclusive education, interactive teaching materials, automation of routine tasks and a number of others.

The paper considers ratings as a mechanism for independent evaluation of the work of universities. The ratings help applicants, their parents, students, and employers navigate the diversity of universities. The article provides the history of ratings creation and reliable domestic ratings. The advantages and disadvantages inherent in the ratings are analyzed. The databases on the basis of which reliable ratings are formed are indicated. It is noted that the ratings require further improvement and development.

Based on the analysis of students’ questionnaires and teaching experience, the article reveals the contradictions in language teaching: between the requirements of FSES and the low level of foreign language competence, between learning motivation and its insufficient development, between the potential of digital technologies and their low efficiency. Taking into account these contradictions, it is necessary to introduce artificial intelligence technologies as a promising direction to improve the efficiency of foreign language acquisition.
