Strategy development algorithm to raise linguistic competence of technical university research and teaching staff (the case of Tomsk Polytechnic University)

Abstract. The authors concern the problem of linguistic competence role of technical universities research and teaching staff. It is stated that the insufficient level of the specified competence is one of the reasons that retard the Russian higher education development and that it results in Russian higher education institutions position in the World University Rankings. The authors refer to the experience of one of the leading Russian technical universities – National Research Tomsk Polytechnic University (NR TPU) – to solve this problem. The article presents the key results of strategy development to raise the NR TPU research and teaching staff linguistic competence and analysis of its implementation positive and negative aspects.

Annotation. In the epoch of crises the philosophy of successful employees in high-tech manufacturing branches is defined by their inner incentive to survive – despite risks and uncertainty emerging in a hard-fought competitive battle. The activity of a specialist in the intercultural business environment is accounted for by the need to compress foreign language (FL) information, analyze one’s own and other people’s faults, take effort-and-time-consuming decisions – all is aimed at the increase in labour productivity. That is why it’s becoming essential to assimilate a praxiological component with the professional model, which so far has not been considered in the professional FL didactics. The article concerned describes the phenomenon of praxiology in correlation with the competence approach. The two approaches appear to have much in common in view of “performing in constantly changing circumstances”. Respectively, in FL learning the integration of subject, language, culture and thought process takes place in the context of praxioloigical situations. It is just here that creativity and efficiency are shaped by means of mental speed acceleration as well as students’ control of their language behavior – both its contents and FL support.

Annotation. Annotation. The article analyses requirements for system engineer from western and national high-technology enterprises. It is described required competence of system engineer in comparison with competence of project manager – a popular management profession, whose members are working closely with systems engineers to manage the lifecycle of complex technical systems. The article introduces the architecture of curriculum as well as educational path of system engineer that meet the requirements of stakeholders presented by national industrial organizations. It is discussed approach to the formation of the education plan and to the competency model of system engineer, undertaken by the National Research Nuclear University “MEPhI.”

Abstract. The paper presents the principles of the competency-based approach concerning training of teaching staff in higher education schools. The functions and roles of a teacher of the modern university were identified. The competencies of a higher schoolteacher were determined. A methodic competency is considered as a key characteristic of a higher schoolteacher. The structure of a methodic competency was studied and its concept was defined. The necessity to develop and improve methodic competency of a medical schoolteacher was grounded.

Abstract. The article discusses the concept of professional linguistic personality, its structure and the role the professionally-oriented learning environment plays in its formation. Particular attention is paid to the issue of professionally-oriented approach to the formation of the linguistic personality in tertiary institutions, as the overall professionalization of the linguistic personalitybegins with familiarizing students with professional discourse. The concept of professional discourse is clarified. Professionally-oriented learning environment is considered as a major factor in the formation of professional linguistic personality of students in tertiary institutions. It promotes the development of students’ special language skills of linguistic personality, as well as specific professional thinking.

One of the priorities process of informatization of society is the computerization of education, i.e. the process of providing education methodology and practice of development and optimum use of modern information technologies for the implementation of psycho-pedagogical training and education purposes. The widespread use of multimedia tools in conducting lectures can significantly increase amount of theoretical material for the time of the lectures. Furthermore, the presence of this course in the public domain allows students repeatedly come back to the study of difficult places and frees them from having to write notes. Creating a database of multimedia training courses can significantly raise the level of education in the peripheral universities in the related specialties.
