The article is devoted to the problem of using teaching materials (textbooks) for students of higher education institutions of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia as a methodological support for training methods of self-education. One the functions of teaching materials is to form students’ ability to work with a text, to analyse information, to navigate the information and educational space, to self-identify in the multidimensional world of positions, to evaluate the own progress along the trajectory of development.

The article represents the results of studying the 6th-year students’ ideas on the “Simulated Patient” methodology. Basing on the obtained data, the author makes conclusions about the contraversial understanding of this methodology by graduates accompanied by a strong interest in its application in clinical disciplines throughout all the years of study, as well as a pronounced need for a special integrated program aimed at developing general psychological and special communicative competence of future doctors.

The general evaluation of the higher educational institutions’ readiness to inclusive education is given, and the proposals on improvement of conditions to provide educational services to disabled persons and persons with special needs are formulated.
