The article reveals modern approaches to the assessment of professional self-realization of higher school teachers. Professional self-realization of university teachers is considered as a process of achieving the set goals, ensuring a positive emotional and psychological attitude and disclosure of personal scientific and pedagogical potential in professional activity. Based on the data of a sociological survey, an assessment of the conditional “balance” between expectations and practical opportunities for teachers to realize their potential is given.

The publication argues for the objective necessity of a forced industrial breakthrough, carried out during the first five-year plan (1928-1932), for the radical modernization of the army and navy. It is particularly pointed out that the historical experience of the implementation of defense measures at the turn of the 1920s-1930s, in the conditions of the hostile environment of the USSR, allows us to formulate some conclusions and historical lessons during the special military operation in Ukraine.
